What is DHA?

An omega 3 fatty acid, DHA is needed for normal brain function throughout life. DHA is found in body tissue and is a major structural component of cell membranes in the gray matter of the brain and retina of the eye. It is especially important for visual and central nervous system development during gestation and the first two years of life.

Smart fats for growing brains

Fats can influence brain development and performance. This is especially true for babies whose rapid growth causes their brain to triple in size before their first birthday. Fats are a major component of the brain cell membrane and the myelin sheath around each nerve. So it makes sense that getting enough fat - and the right kinds of fat - can greatly affect brain development and performance.

Know what Mother Nature knows

Mother Nature must have known how important fat was for babies 50% of the calories in breast milk come from fat!

The Science of DHA

A study conducted by the National Institute of Child Health and Development found that infants fed DHA-fortified formula scored about seven points higher on a 100-point scale on a test of mental development when they were toddlers, compared to those fed formula without DHA. The same study showed improved vision equal to about one line on a vision chart.
